CHRISTEEN PORTER MURPHY

Mrs. Christeen Porter Murphy, age 84, of Caryville, Florida passed away at home surrounded by her family on September 29, 2026.  She was born on August 3, 1942, in Washington County, Florida to the late Curtis Porter Sr. and Willie Mae McGahee Porter.  In addition to her parents, Christeen was preceded in death by one daughter, Teresa Uline Murphy, one son, Kenneth Ray Murphy, father of her children, Hilton Murphy, three brothers, Curtis Porter, John Henry Porter, Pete McGahee, and two sisters, Donnie Grimsley and Sarah Wallace.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by a daughter, Bridget Penley and a very special son-in-law, Ricky Pinley and a daughter, Sharon Murphy; one granddaughter, Tiffanie Shepard and husband Adam; two grandsons, Anthony Bush and Lil Rickey and wife Melinda; nine great grandchildren, Jackson, Hunter and Hannah, Jr and Jayda, Hayden, Peyton, Madison and Tucker, Angel and Brandon, Whitney, and Rosie; five great-great-grandchildren, Walter, Lily May, Aldalynn, AnnaKate, and Aubriella; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Also left to cherish her memory are her husband, Pete Burke and his children, Buddy and Jackie, Sheri and Frank, Vonnie and Chris, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Christeen was a devoted Christian whose faith in her Lord was the foundation of her life. She was a loving and amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured her family dearly. Christeen loved singing gospel music and praising her Lord. Her faith was evident in the way she lived her life and, in the love and compassion she showed to others.

Christeen dedicated many years of her life to serving others. She drove a school bus for 37 years, creating countless memories with the children she transported and becoming a familiar and caring face in her community. She also spent 22 years caring for the elderly, giving her time, patience, and loving attention to those in need. Her servant’s heart also led her to volunteer with hospice, where she offered comfort and compassion during difficult times.

Of all the jobs Christeen held throughout her life, perhaps her favorite was being a Walmart greeter. She loved meeting people, sharing a smile, and making others feel welcomed. Her cheerful personality and genuine love for people made this special role one she truly enjoyed.

Christeen’s earthly journey is complete, but her faith tells us that this is not goodbye forever. She is now resting in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, whom she faithfully praised throughout her life.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Pleasant Grove Church.  Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home and Bonifay Crematory in charge of arrangements.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 9 to 10 AM at Pleasant Grove Church, 2430 Shakey Joe Road, Vernon, FL.  Serving as pallbearers will be Anthony, Adam, Lil Rickey, Hayden, Hunter, and Jr and serving as honorary pallbearers will be Danny, Darrell, Jimmy, Greg, Dana, Terry, Kenneth, Terry Green, and Gary.
