FRANCES MABELLE BOWERS

Ms. Frances Mabelle Bowers, age 97, of Bonifay, Florida passed away June 14, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.  She was born October 4, 1928, in Bratt, Escambia County, Florida to the late John Franklin Locke and Mary Ellen Woodard Locke.  In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, James A. ‘Cody’ Bowers, six siblings, Charlie Locke, Travis Locke, Cleo Locke, Joseph Locke, Foy B. Locke, Ray Locke, and Gladys Griffis; one granddaughter, Tara Daugherty.

Frances spent 20 years working at the Van Heusen Shirt Factory in Geneva, Alabama, where she formed many lasting friendships. Afterward, she became the proud owner and operator of the General Store, “Bower’s Service Station,” and “Dianne’s Drive-In” in Caryville, Florida. Through her businesses, Frances created a place where people gathered, shared stories, and felt like family.

To many, she was simply “Granny”, a name that reflected the love, generosity, and comfort she gave so freely. She was known for her welcoming heart and the way she made others feel special.  Frances will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched throughout the years.

Ms. Bowers is survived by one daughter, Dianne Daugherty and husband John of Pensacola, FL; four grandchildren, Dana Miles and husband Shane, Shannon Yates and wife Maria, Tammy Hassell and husband Bo, and Brad Daugherty; seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa Williams and husband David, Seth Miles and wife Kaylan, Kye Snow, Cori Snow and fiancé Austyn, Kara Snow, Nevaeh Hassell, and Kayla Jarman; three great-great-grandchildren, Zachary Williams and wife Shanta, Landon Miles, and Daxon Miles; one great-great-great-grandchild, Evren Williams; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Bonifay First Assembly of God Church with the reverends Gary Taylor, John Chance, Josh Hodge and Seth Miles officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hudson Hill Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Moore officiating.  Peel Funeral Home and Bonifay Crematory in charge of arrangements.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday, June 22, 2026, at Bonifay First Assembly of God Church, 1009 South Waukesha Street, Bonifay, Florida.
