Mrs. Ocie Dorch Howell, age 88, of Vernon, Florida passed away July 15, 2026, at her home. She was born on November 10, 1937, in Vernon, Florida to the late Johnny Dorch and Henry Mae Goodson Dorch. In addition to her parents, Ocie was preceded in death by three brothers, NJ Dorch, Don Dorch, and Jack Dorch, two sisters, Ollie Brock and Orie Simmons, one grandson, Jason Howell, and one great-grandson, Finn Dowell.
Ocie was a beloved wife, mother, and Granny who cherished every moment spent with those she loved. One of her greatest joys in life was caring for her children and grandchildren. They were the center of her world, and she poured her heart into making their lives special.
She was known for her delicious home-cooked meals, which brought family and friends together around the table. Her home was always filled with warmth and love. She also found great joy in tending to her flowers, taking pride in the beauty they brought to her home.
She touched the lives of many while working as cashier for years at the Dixie Dandy in Vernon. Ocie will be remembered for her spunky spirit, unwavering love, and the countless memories she created with those she held dear.
Mrs. Howell is survived by her husband of 70 years, James Howell of Vernon, FL; two children, Keith Howell and wife Cathy of Semmes, AL and Dedra Howell Brock and husband Ricky of Milton, FL; five grandchildren, Raychel Larson and husband, Randy, Jared Brock and wife Mindy, Michael Howell, Nicole Dowell and husband Brandon, and Sara Brock; five great-grandchildren, Chloe Larson, Harper Howell, Barrett Howell, Kaden Brock, and Gideon Blackwell; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Dorch and Janice Howell; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Journey Church. Interment will follow in the Weeks Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home and Bonifay Crematory in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM at Journey Church, 3119 Main Street, Vernon, FL 32462.
