JAMES NOLAN ‘SON’ CHANCE

Mr. James Nolan ‘Son’ Chance, age 97, formerly of Bonifay, Florida, passed away at his home in Chumuckla, Florida on October 28, 2026.  He was born March 27, 1929, in Bonifay, Florida to the late James ‘Jim’ Richard Chance and Mary Alice ‘Mace’ DeVane Chance.  In addition to his parents, Son was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Virginia Spears Chance, his sister, Anna Bevis and husband William ‘Billy’ Bevis, a nephew, James ‘Jim’ Bevis.

For 48 years Son owned Son’s Tire Center where he worked alongside his employees. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Bonifay, where he served as a deacon and choir member. Son’s daily kind and generous nature was a testament to his faith. Whether it be out in the community or in his business dealings, his Christian devotion was always evident.

In his younger years, Son enjoyed motorcycles and scuba diving. An interest in his health led him to become an avid walker. Many will remember passing him on the old Bonifay/Chipley Road as he would give his signature wave.

Above all, Son cherished his family and good friends. The time he spent with those he loved held a value that could not be replaced. Son lived a life defined by hard work and genuine care for others. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Mr. Chance is survived by two daughters, Melody Parish and husband Bill of Bonifay, FL and Faith Flock and husband Andrew of Chumuckla, FL; two grandchildren, Chance Pender and Ginger Flock; niece, Mary Bevis Bruce and husband Stanley; cousin, John Yarbrough Chance and wife Joyce; special friends, Joe Frank Newsome and Kathy Brazile.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 31, 2026, in the Bonifay Cemetery.
