JAMES WILLIAM CRISP, JR.

James William (Billy) (Pop) Crisp, Jr., 90, of Cottondale, Florida passed away at home on November 13, 2020.

He was born to parents, James William (Bill) and Edna Elizabeth Edenfield Crisp, on July 7, 1930 in Jacksonville, Florida. Billy graduated from Holmes County High School and attended the University of Florida. He married Kathryn, the love of his life, in 1948 and they began their life together in Immokalee, Florida. He followed in his father's footsteps in the grocery business. He began as a butcher and later he built and owned his own stores, known as the Shopworth. He was very involved in the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Boy Scouts, church, and piloting his own plane. In 1967, he sold his businesses and moved back to the panhandle where he and Kathryn were raised. There he enjoyed a slower and relaxing kind of life on the farm with his family.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert Franklin Crisp and his son-in-law, Michael Blair Murray. He is survived by his wife, of 72 years, Sarah Kathryn Howell Crisp; children Deborah Crisp Register (Dale), James William Crisp, III (Joan), Roy Stephen Crisp (Benjie) and Angela Crisp Murray; grandchildren Will Crisp (Jessica), Erin Duke (Tommy), Stephanie Cook (Cass), Matthew Murray (Wendy), Eric Murray (Lauren) and Ian Murray; 16 great-grandchildren; his brother Donald Ray Crisp (Tyrene), his sister Betty Kathryn Crisp and his sister-in-law Patricia Malloy Crisp; many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the staff at Covenant Care Hospice in Marianna, Florida for their generous love and kindness they shared during the past few months.

A private funeral service was held. If you wish to honor him, do so by following his lead. Go out and do an act of kindness for someone and tell no one. He was a kind and gentle man who wanted no acknowledgement for his generous actions. We celebrate the example he set his entire life.
