JOHN MARVIN DUNCAN

Mr. John Marvin Duncan, age 74, of Bonifay, Florida passed away May 26, 2022, at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay. He was born August 26, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York. He moved around the country with his family to different areas including North and South Carolina, Delaware, and eventually to Florida, where he earned his diploma at Miami Norland Senior High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in December of 1965 and volunteered for Submarine service. Throughout the next 20 years, he served aboard several different submarines, his favorite being the USS Sennet. He retired from the US Navy in 1985 and began working in auto mechanics, and eventually opened his own business called the Kool-It Shop in Bonifay, Florida. After some time, he decided to dedicate another 20 years of his time to the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, serving as the commanding officer of Seawolf Division in Panama City, Florida. He made a difference in many cadet’s lives, building future leaders of the world, and allowing them to fully expand their potential whether it be in the military, or civilian sector. John was preceded in death by his father, Denver Duncan and his daughter, Denise Duncan.

John is survived by his wife, Diane Duncan; his mother, Agnes Torres; one son, David Duncan and wife, Sally; three daughters, Janeane Duncan, JoAnna Duncan, and Dena Geist; three sisters, Jackie Duncan Watts, Mary Jane Duncan, and Clair Davey; two brothers, Jimmy Duncan and Joe Duncan; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorialization will be by cremation. A memorial service will be held by the family. Time and location will be posted later.
