MARY MAE PETTIS

Ms. Mary Mae Pettis, age 84, of Bonifay, Florida passed away November 4, 2026, at her home.  She was born on July 21, 1942, in Holmes County, Florida to the late Charlie Lester Herring Sr. and Martha Price Herring.  In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by husband, Buck L. Pettis, one brother, Charlie L. Herring Jr., one sister, Johnnie Mae Peters and husband Rev. Don Peters, and stepson-in-law, Charles Smith.

Ms. Pettis is survived by two sons, Michael Pettis of Bonifay, FL and Mitchell Pettis of Bonifay, FL; one daughter, Sue Forthman and husband Marcus of Bonifay, FL; one stepdaughter, Rhonda Smith of Bonifay, FL; three grandsons, Lucas Forthman and wife Krissy of Wetumpka, FL, Tucker Forthman and wife Faith of Hartford, AL, and Blaze Forthman of Bonifay, FL; honorary grandson, Josh Treadway of Bonifay, FL; three great-grandchildren, Parker Forthman and Charlotte Forthman both of Wetumpka, FL, and Kinsley Forthman of Hartford,

AL; one brother, Tommy Herring and wife Patsy of Hartford, AL; one sister, Rosie Metcalf of Midland City, AL; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 7, 2026, in the Peel Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home and Bonifay Crematory in charge of arrangements.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12 to 1 PM at Peel Funeral Home. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Trammel, Doug Newton, Dale Hickman, Noah Hickman, Joshua Coan, and Gary Smith and serving as an alternate pallbearer will be Sam Roof.
