Ms. Verna May Kelaula Pahukoa Dykes, age 73, of Vernon, Florida passed away July 9, 2022, at her home. She was born May 5, 1949, in Paia-Makawao, Hawaii in Maui County. Verna was preceded in death by her mother, Flora Haiwale Pahukoa Aquino, her father, Eusebio Aquino, her husband, Hayward Dykes, Sr., and one son, Henry Barcena.
Ms. Dykes is survived by her children, Laurie Higginbotham and husband Dana of Chipley, FL, Hayward Dykes, Jr. and wife Arie of Freeport, FL, and Hayley Dykes of Vernon, FL; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; five siblings, Georgina L. Aquino of Maui, HI, Marcelino M. Aquino and wife Jeanette of Maui, HI, Darrell L. Aquino and wife Evelyn of Maui, HI, Rowena N. Aquino of Vernon, FL, and Billy Kalani Gagnon and wife Kathleen of Oahu, HI; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Vernon Evangelistic Church with Rev. Keith Mashburn officiating. Interment will follow in the Weeks Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 9 to 10 AM at Vernon Evangelistic Church.
