Ms. Betty Hazel Hutchinson, age 93, of Bonifay, Florida went home to be with Jesus on June 8, 2024, at Southeast Health Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama. She was born September 14, 1930, in Black, Alabama to the late Robert Ivey Fielding and Agnes Lavada Strickland Fielding. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Knight Hutchinson Jr., son-in-law, Grady Chitty, bonus daughter, Carole Steverson and husband Ike, bonus son-in-law, Buddy Chesnut, and four siblings, Ren Fielding, Nell Tindell, Bobbie Miller, and Rex Fielding.
She was well-known for her delicious tea cakes, a cherished treat that brought joy to many. Her tea cakes traveled around the world and often made appearances on church trips. Betty's deep love for her church, First Baptist Bonifay, was evident in her active participation and dedication. Above all, she cherished her family dearly. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the sweet legacy of her tea cakes.
Ms. Hutchinson is survived by two daughters, Belinda Chitty and Polly Wells and husband Jamie; four grandchildren, Darren Chitty and wife Michelle, Toni Williams and husband Dale, Jim Wells and wife Mandy, and Sam Wells and wife Cassie; four bonus daughters, Margaret Chesnut, Mary Fowler and husband Phil, Susan Neal and husband Jay, and Leah Brown and husband Doug; bonus grandchildren, Emily Taylor and husband Gary, April Strickland and husband David, Christi Curry and husband Scott, Wendy Syfrett and husband Hayward, Rachel Prescott and husband Kyle, Rebecca Jenkins and husband Marvin, Kyle Chesnut and wife Mia, Jennifer Christman and husband Tim, Christin Thorton and husband Allen, Josh Brown, and Jake Brown; one brother, Harold Fielding and wife Zarina; two sister, Ann Barnard and Marlyne Wilson; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 13, 2024, at First Baptist Bonifay with Dr. Shelly Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in the Bonifay Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home and Bonifay Crematory in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 at First Baptist Bonifay.
Memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Bonifay Building Fund, 24/7 Ministry, or FARM Ministry in Betty’s memory.
