Mr. Dewey Lee Pettis, age 84, of Sunny Hills, Florida passed away June 30, 2022, at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay in Panama City, Florida. He was born February 9, 1938, in Bonifay, Florida to the late Jessie Alvin Pettis and Nora Elizabeth Birge Pettis. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pettis was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Shelby Jean Pettis, two sons-in-law, Richard Massey and Andy Watford, two sisters, Lillie Ruth Carr and Pace Pettis, four brothers, Lucky Pettis, Laney Pettis, David Pettis, and Donny Pettis, and one daughter, Cindy Scott.
Mr. Pettis is survived by his wife, Marie Pettis of Sunny Hills, FL; children, Larry Pettis and wife Robin of Dothan, AL, Linda Allen and husband William G. of Meridian, MS, Phyllis Massey of Dothan, AL, Olivia Watford of Dothan, AL, Stacey Pettis and wife Kerry of Dothan, AL, Leon Scott and wife Suzie of Waimea, HI, Marie George and husband Larry of Simpson, LA, John Scott of Houston, TX, and Stephen Scott and wife Lena of Panama City, FL; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Louie Pettis and wife Erlene, John Pettis and wife Pat and Charles Pettis; two sisters, Inez Roche and husband Clyde and Bonnie Smith; numerous niece and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Poplar Head Free Will Baptist Church, 2543 Poplar Head Road, Bonifay, Florida. Interment will follow in the Poplar Head Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Saturday from 1 to 2 PM at Poplar Head Free Will Baptist Church.
