Don was born on August 8, 1942, in Vernon, Florida. He is the eldest son of Margie Lee Hudson-Boyette and William Walter Boyette. Don spent his childhood in Vernon with family and friends before moving to Atlanta, Georgia to graduate from Chamblee High School. He attended Southern Technical Institute in Marietta, Georgia studying Electrical Engineering before entering the Army. He was stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany until 1965. This is where he met his wife of 25 years, Gertraud Dittbender-Boyette (Angie). Upon his return to the states, he began a lifelong career in the vending services industry, eventually owning his own vending machine repair business, ABLE Remanufacturing and Vending.
Don’s favorite pastimes included tinkering with anything electronic, hunting, fishing, radio communication, and scanning the web. He was an avid learner and open to all sorts of new ideas. While he lived in Atlanta, he returned to his hometown of Vernon numerous times each year to spend time with family and friends. He did not know a stranger and anyone who met him loved him. He had quite the personality.
Don died peacefully on August 22, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia.
He is predeceased by his parents and brother, William Robert Boyette, Sr. He is survived by his daughters, granddaughter, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at New Hope United Methodist Cemetery in Vernon, Florida on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Viewing at 12:45 pm.
