Mr. Earl Vernon Lewis, Sr., age 85, of Bonifay, Florida passed away September 28, 2021, at Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva, Alabama. He was born August 8, 1936, in Holmes County Florida to the late Jessie Bennie Lewis and Sarah Veleter Brackins Lewis. In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil Lewis, Vander Lewis, and Verlon Lewis, four sisters, Irene Leggett, Katherine Money, Myrtle Lockwood, and Faydean Hodge, and a son-in-law, Mike Hendrix.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 61 years, Athealone Lewis of Bonifay, FL; three children, Verna Marie Hendrix, Vernon Lewis, Jr., and Veronica Lewis all of Bonifay, FL; six grandchildren, Rachel Moore, Dakota Hendrix, Vernon Lewis III, Contessa Griffith, Leah Lewis, and Zach Wilkerson; six grandchildren, Chase, Jeremiah, Annabelle, Addilynn, Ellason, Charlotte, and Carson; one brother, Jessie Valton Lewis of Gainesville, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, October 1, 2021, at New Bayview Church. Interment will follow in the Union Hill Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Thursday at Peel Funeral Home.
