J. R. MONK

J.R. Monk, age 94, went to be with the Lord on March 9, 2022. He was born July 28, 1927, in Holmes County Florida. He will be remembered for his service to his country in the Army Air Force and his service to his community as a law enforcement officer for the Leon County Sheriff’s Department. As a licensed, private pilot he often flew Florida State Officials, including Representative Don Fuqua. Friends and family will remember his craftsmanship from his time as a construction contractor, his strength seemingly endless. A man of faith, J.R. was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church of Bonifay, FL. He will be remembered as a generous man, always willing to help others, a legacy that will live on through those who loved him.


Mr. Monk was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Monk and A.D. Paul Monk and two sisters, Marguritte Dewrell and Perry D. Boswell.

Mr. Monk is survived by one daughter, Agatha M. Cannon and husband Frank of Tallahassee, FL; one sister, Mabel McCord of Warner Robins, GA; two grandsons, Christopher Cannon and Chad Cannon and wife Kaitlyn; two great-grandsons, Matthew Cannon and Noah Cannon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 12, 2022, in the Peel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Bollinger officiating. Interment will be in the Union Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 am at Peel Funeral Home.
