Mr. John Paisley Alford, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Bonifay, Florida on December 24, 2025. John was born on July 15, 1936, in his childhood home on Nebraska Avenue in Bonifay to the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Paisley Alford (Teresa Childs). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Sapp Alford, three older sisters, Ann Kates (Bill), Sue Howell (Drexel), and Betty Williams (Earl), a sister-in-law Dolores Taylor and son-in-law Donald Etheridge.
He is survived by his daughter, Lucy Etheridge of Bonifay and two grandsons, John Etheridge (Rachel) of Bonifay and Bryce Etheridge (Caroline) of Graceville, FL; his sister-in-law Margaret Medley (Ray) of Bonifay; four nephews, Warren Saxon (Lana) of DeLand, FL, Andy Howell (Terry) of Bonifay, Mike Taylor of Bonifay, and Nicholas Medley (Jenny) of Pace, FL; numerous great nieces and nephews and his beloved canine companion, a terrier mix named Dolly.
John worked for the Florida Department of Transportation for 42 years before retiring in 1998. He also served in the National Guard and was a member of the Bonifay Volunteer Fire Department for numerous years. In his retirement, he obtained a real estate license and worked at several local realty offices. He enjoyed buying and selling real estate, collecting coins, watching westerns and movies, gardening, working outdoors and attending estate sales. He raised cattle and in his later years enjoyed his flock of chickens. He was a hardworking and loving Son, Husband, Daddy and Poppy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Bonifay First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ryan Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Bonifay Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home and Bonifay Crematory in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM at Bonifay First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Bonifay First United Methodist Church (www.bonifayfirst.org) or the Wiregrass Humane Society (www.wiregrasshumanesociety.com).
