Mrs. Mary Elizabeth White, age 80, of Bonifay, Florida passed away June 16, 2026, at Southeast Health Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama. She was born October 25, 1945, in Missouri to the late Archie A. Gerkey and Maxine Farris Gerkey. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her two brothers, Bud Farris and Johnny Gerkey, and her brother-in-law, Tommy White.
Mary devoted more than 40 years of her life to Bonifay Elementary School, where she served as a data clerk and lunchroom cafeteria administrator. She was known as a strong and caring presence, often serving as a disciplinarian when needed, but always with a heart full of love. Mary had a special place in her heart for underprivileged and needy children, and she made sure they felt seen, cared for, and valued.
Mary was a faithful member and charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she had been a part of the church family since 1973. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she lived it through her kindness, generosity, and service to others.
Outside of her work and church, Mary enjoyed the simple joys of life. She loved crocheting, reading books, and cooking for her family and friends. Her kitchen was often a place of love and comfort, where she prepared meals not only for those close to her but also for bereaved families and shut-ins, always finding a way to care for others during their times of need.
Mary’s gentle spirit, giving heart, and unwavering love will be remembered. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the children she encouraged, and the love she shared so freely.
Mrs. White is survived by her husband of 58 years, Larry F. White of Bonifay, FL; two sons, Dwayne Frazier White and wife Tara and Bobby White and wife Sabrina all of Bonifay, FL; one sister, Maretta White of Cairo, GA; three grandchildren, Cody White, Hunter White, and Sarah Thelen; three great-grandchildren, Chandli White, Cameron White, and Mason Thelen; nephew, Shaun and niece, Taylor.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 19, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the St. John Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home and Bonifay Crematory in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM Friday, June 19, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church.
