MARY EVELYN ADAIR


Mary E. Adair, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2023, in Marianna, Florida. She was born November 18, 1938, in Grenada, Mississippi and later moved to Florida to work and raise her family. Later in life her family settled in Bonifay, and after Hurricane Michael, Mary moved to Jackson County.


She is preceded in death by her husband, Langley Adair, her daughter, Margaret Lois Boyd, and seven siblings. She is survived by her son, Danny Boyd and wife Lisa, and her daughter, Kim Boyd. Mary had five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.


In 1969 she was Queen of Beta Sigma Phi and Queen of Seminole County. She was also an excellent student and forward thinker – always planning for the future.


Mary received her LPN license when she was 21 years old and had a long career as a nurse serving from Ft. Myers to Pensacola. At age 50, Mary received her RN Degree. She served as a traveling nurse, a psychiatric nurse, and a CMS nurse serving children for the Department of Children and Families. She also worked in corrections as a nurse. In 2000, Mary retired from the State of Florida.


Mary always had a heart for helping others and loved taking care of people. She enjoyed sewing, quilt making, painting, traveling, and music. Her favorite song was The Tennessee Waltz.


Mary loved her family and would often brag about them to her friends. She also served the Lord faithfully and was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church. She was an inspiration to those who knew her and always full of grace.


The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM Wednesday at Peel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 3, 2023, in the Peel Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gable officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Peel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
